Stage 7. Chantada-Rodeiro
STAGE 7 CHANTADA-RODEIRO Starting from the Plaza de Santa Ana we go up Calle Alférez Baamonte until we reach LU-1809. At one point we will find a bib of souls, a stone monument to the souls of purgatory in which alms were deposited. Right at that place we leave the aforementioned road taking the detour on the left. By local road we reach the LU-617, where there is a crossroads. A cairn sends us to the right and after about 200 meters another cairn makes us turn 90º to the left, sending us along a path parallel to the CG 2.2 expressway. Upon reaching Boan we turn left onto a local road that leads to Lucenza. Here we take a path for a short time to quickly follow a road that leads to Vilaseco and Penasillás. In Penasillás there is a church and a breastplate of souls. Also an excellent source. Here we will start the 4.8 km climb to Mount Faro. First by a wide dirt track to the memorial to the poet Uxío Novoneira (there is a fountain in this place) and then by road, reaching the Monte rest area. There are some wooden tables with their respective benches and a fountain. From the rest area we descend a wide gravel road, leaving the line of wind turbines on our left. We arrive at the junction of CRG-22 with LU-213. A detour to the right, well signposted, takes us along a path to Vilanova. On that road we will find a cairn that announces that we have just entered the municipality of Rodeiro. From Vilanova to the Pazo de Camba we go by paved road. We crossed EP-6201 and along a path we came to a farm and a soccer field. Then a highway leads us to Rio. Here is a bar to stop or eat. We then continue, alternating path and highway, through Mouriz and, finally, Rodeiro. IF WE WANT TO AVOID THE MONTEFARO DUE TO INJURY, TIREDNESS OR BAD WEATHER, when we arrive at PENASILLÁS we can follow the itinerary indicated by the map that we insert below in PDF, with the title PENASILLÁS. It is a better way, shorter, less tiring and in winter we will avoid snow. The ascent to Monte Faro lacks logical and historical sense.
